Noor Ahmad is an emerging talent in the world of cricket, particularly known for his left-arm wrist spin. Born on January 3, 2005, in Afghanistan, Ahmad has quickly made a name for himself on the international stage, representing his country across various formats.


Noor Ahmad Lakanwal’s journey into professional cricket began at a young age, making his first-class debut on April 29, 2019, for Kabul Region in the 2019 Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament. His T20 debut came later that year on October 8, 2019, for Mis Ainak Knights in the 2019 Shpageeza Cricket League. Recognizing his potential early on, Ahmad was named in Afghanistan’s squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in December 2019. His skills were not just confined to domestic leagues; by July 2020, he was part of the St Lucia Zouks squad for the Caribbean Premier League.

Ahmad’s talents were further recognized internationally when, at just 15 years old, he was signed by the Melbourne Renegades for the 2020–21 Big Bash League season. His involvement in international cricket expanded in 2021 when he was named a net bowler for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and played for the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League. His international career took a significant leap forward when he was named in Afghanistan’s One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) squads for series against Pakistan and Zimbabwe, respectively, in 2021.

Ahmad’s bowling prowess has been evident through his impressive performances in various leagues around the world. His best bowling figures in T20Is, ODIs, and first-class cricket highlight his ability to take crucial wickets. Notably, his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on November 30, 2022, and his T20I debut against Zimbabwe on June 14, 2022, marked the beginning of his international career in these formats.

One of his most significant achievements came when he made his ODI World Cup debut on October 23, 2023, against Pakistan in Chennai, becoming the youngest debutant in the tournament at the age of 18. This milestone underscored his rising status in international cricket and his potential to be a key player for Afghanistan in the years to come.

Throughout his young career, Ahmad has been associated with several domestic and international teams, including the Melbourne Renegades, Chennai Super Kings, Karachi Kings, and Gujarat Titans, showcasing his versatility and adaptability across different conditions and formats.
